Why Silicon still needs Carbon

why programs still need humans

AI

  • Even pure AI needs human help.  A core pillar of AI is referred to as Labeling, where humans assist AI Models by labeling, correcting & teaching the models. Human intervention is important to minimize AI hallucinations and accuracy.

  • An AI system needs accurate data if you are using it to help make decisions for your company.  The rule of GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out) is universal and even applies to humans.  Timely data must be captured correctly with as much detail as possible, both form customers/ partners AND from within the company.

  • This is critical when using AI within CRM, ERP or other business systems as well.

ERP & SCM

  • Manufacturers use barcode data collection for inventory accuracy ... imagine having realtime data across your entire ERP system.

  • Having accurate sales forecast updates enhances planning across the business and supply chain.

  • Material and capacity planning can be optimized with timely accurate information from customers, resellers and suppliers.  While some data communication can be automated; some needs to come from humans.

BI

  • The value of information provided by a Business Intelligence, Analytics or reporting system is only as good as the accuracy of the information going into the system or database that the BI systems is pulling information from.

  • Some information can be captured electronically, but this data this typically needs to be reviewed and some of it will need to be adjusted.

CRM

  • Today many demand-signals/ PO change communications can be automated between customers and vendors.  Other updates (especially last minute ones) still need to come from humans, and need to be asked for proactively.

  • Sale forecasts, and the decisions they affect, can be dependent on sales people/ channel managers updating CRM/ ERP with realtime, detailed data. With all of these peoples' responsibilities this does not always get done.

  • Upset customers may not always communicate concerns until it is too late, and many won't fill out surveys.  Getting accurate data may require a human to proactively ask and escalate.

Finance

  • Many financial and compliance interactions between you and your customers (or suppliers) can require human intervention since emails are not always responded to.

  • Costly errors can be avoided by having a team focused on realtime coordination with your Sales, Legal and Finance teams; while also speaking with customers.

  • When dealing with agreements and documents, having Quality Assurance helps to avoid errors.

Most Systems

  • The value of information residing in a database is only as good as  the data that is being put into it and how often it is updated.

  • Some data can be captured and used with not human review needed, while some of the data will need to be reviewed, augmented or updated by humans.
